GCF is the world's largest climate fund dedicated to helping developing countries take climate action.
소개
The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is the world's largest climate fund dedicated to helping developing countries take climate action. GCF helps developing countries limit or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. It seeks to promote a paradigm shift to low-emission and climate-resilient development, taking into account the needs of nations that are particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts. It was set up by the 194 countries who are parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2010, as part of the Convention’s financial mechanism. It aims to deliver equal amounts of funding to mitigation and adaptation, while being guided by UNFCCC's principles and provisions. When the Paris Agreement was reached in 2015, GCF was given an important role in serving the agreement and supporting the goal of keeping global temperature rise well below 2 degrees Celsius. Responding to the climate challenge requires collective action from all countries, including by both public and private sectors. Among these concerted efforts, advanced economies have agreed to jointly mobilize significant financial resources. Coming from a variety of sources, these resources address the pressing mitigation and adaptation needs of developing countries.

We listened — and we're taking action. At #GCFB42, the GCF Board agreed to a comprehensive reform package of our accreditation model. We know scaling climate finance isn't enough; speed and access matter too. This is just one of many that we are implementing to ensure we efficiently help developing countries raise their ambitions for urgent #climateaction.

🔥 Accentuated by Seville’s searing 45°C heatwave, the message was clear: the world needs a climate-resilient future now, for all. At #FFD4, the “Compromiso de Sevilla” set a bold course for development finance – calling for systemic reform on debt, tax, and the international financial architecture. Crucially, it elevated #climatefinance as a central pillar of the development agenda. GCF is responding to this call, enhancing the speed, scale, and accessibility of climate finance in alignment with the NCQG. At the Financing for Development conference in Spain, the GCF delegation highlighted that GCF is working closely with developing countries to deliver #climateaction that fuels low emission, climate-resilient development pathways.

A partnership with GCF can help developing countries realise their national #climateaction strategies. Just ask the CEO of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI). At last week's board meeting, SANBI's Eco-DRR project, which aims to incorporate ecosystem-based approaches into disaster risk reduction strategies in South Africa, got approved with USD 40.1 million in GCF financing. It's a full-circle project that started from origination using the GCF Readiness grant to detailed project design and feasibility work with support from the GCF Project Preparation Facility. #GCFB42
